Tappan is a hamlet located in the town of Orangetown in Rockland County, New York. It is located on the border with New Jersey and about 20 miles away from New York City.
Tappan has a population of more than 6,500 residents. The hamlet has a total land area of 2.8 square miles. The hamlet is located at an elevation of over 40 feet above sea level.
Tappan is home to the historic DeWint House, the oldest structure in the county which housed George Washington during the American Revolution. The hamlet has other historic sites dating back to the 18th century.
